SFO New Airport Traffic Control Tower

SFO New Airport Traffic Control Tower

The new 221-foot-tall airport traffic control tower (ATCT) at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) rises above a 44,000 square-foot building that houses Federal Aviation Administration offices and airport facilities. The new ATCT is the tallest vertical, self-centering, post-tensioned concrete structure in the U.S., and is built to withstand seismic events of magnitude 8. The project also included the development of a new secure connector and new non-secure connector, renovation of Boarding Area C, and construction of the new Sky Club for Delta Airlines. To achieve LEED® Gold Status from the U.S. Green Building Council, the project utilized high-energy performance features, natural daylighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures, energy-efficient HVAC systems, LED lighting, photovoltaic panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and interior finishes and materials that are produced sustainably.
