Overview:
The Allen Group is seeking a skilled construction inspector to oversee and monitor transportation-related construction field inspection projects and generate accurate reporting of contractor activities under the direction of the Client/Owner and/or Resident Engineer.
The RE provides leadership, strategy, administration, and supervision of all project construction activities and construction management staff on the project, which may include Assistant Resident Engineers, Administrators (document control, project administration), Project Controls, Inspectors, and other specialists. The RE also interfaces with the client project management staff and other key stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and flow of information to responsible parties and decision makers.
The RE is expected to utilize critical thinking, judgment, and experience to define, analyze, and resolve project problems and issues; and to accomplish project goals on time, within budget, and to applicable quality standards. This position requires work to be done in person and on site.

Requirements:
  • At least five years work experience in relevant field construction inspection, transit system construction or transportation project management
  • Thorough knowledge of inspection standards, procedures, and applicable building and safety codes
  • Ability to develop in-depth understanding of construction plans and specifications and means, methods and design standards used in building projects and compare them with aspects of ongoing construction
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Write clear, detailed and accurate inspection reports in a timely fashion
  • Solve difficult field issues and request additional support as needed
  • Understand safety standards and utilize the knowledge in field conditions
  • Determine and document noncompliant work and follow contract procedure toward resolution
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information/documentation
  • Computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and have a satisfactory driving record
  • Coordinate during the day and at night
  • Available to work night and weekend shifts in all weather conditions
Primary Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
  • Monitor onsite contract work activities to ensure compliance with established safety regulations, construction documents, policies and procedures
  • Work with the Resident Engineer and project team to understand contract plan and specification requirements
  • Review safety standards and practices. Ensure safety standards are followed as applicable to working in rail rights-of-way (ROWs), within transit facilities and on transit infrastructure
  • Assist in establishing project metrics and methods for providing engineering project oversight
  • Compile, complete and submit inspector daily reports of contract field activities, such as work performed, field conditions, labor force, hours of work, equipment status, materials and coordination of work with the Client/Owner and/or Resident Engineer
  • Photograph construction progress and include photos in daily reports
  • Assist in monthly preparation of invoices and prepare monthly contract status reports
  • Escort contractors into field-activity sites to perform survey, pre-bid or work-area inspections and surveys of engineering sites
  • Attend project management meetings to help clarify field work or project challenges
  • Maintain excellent records and files
  • Provide project metrics for time-and-materials work
  • Prepare and report nonconformance issues and keep track of corrective actions
  • Assist in preparing Requests for Information (RFIs) and change orders
  • Read project documents, including civil, structural, electrical and mechanical plans and specifications
