Project Description:
LYNX Blue Line Extension: $1.16 billion, 9.3-mile extension of the light rail system included 11 new stations, a new storage yard, maintenance facility improvements, and procurement of 22 new vehicles.

This Project extended the existing LYNX Blue Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) service that involves the construction of a conventional electrified light rail line for approximately 9.3 miles, with 11 new stations, and 3,100 parking spaces; procure 22 new light rail vehicles (LRVs). The project opened for Revenue Service ahead of the FFGA Revenue Service Date.

LYNX Gold Line Phase 2: $150 million, 2.5-mile extension of Phase 1 line, with 11 stops and modifications to existing stops and 6 new low-floor streetcars with off limited wire capability. The project consists of the design and construction of double-track in-street running streetcar line with 11 new stops, as well as the modification of six stops along the existing Phase 1 alignment. The project includes six modern streetcar vehicles with hybrid technology to allow for some off-wire segments along the planned alignment. The six existing stops will be modified to allow for level boarding with the new vehicles.

All platforms will utilize either a side or center platform configuration. The Phase 2 Project will begin at the CTC, which is the current terminus for the Gold Line Phase 1 system. The project will extend west from the CTC along Trade Street for approximately 2.0 miles and terminate at French Street near Johnson C. Smith University campus. It will also extend northeast approximately 0.5 miles along Hawthorne Lane from the eastern terminus of Phase 1 near Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center to Sunnyside Avenue. This extension of the existing CityLYNX Gold Line will result in an approximately 4-mile-long, double-track streetcar system through Center City Charlotte.
