Overview:
The Allen Group is looking for an enthusiastic team player to join one of its construction management (CM) teams as an Office Engineer (OE) to help ensure day-to-day CM contract administration and related activities are well organized and coordinated, and meet project and client commitments. This position requires work to be done in person and onsite.
The position will be filled at a client’s office or construction site field office in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. The work environment may be noisy and dusty or otherwise less comfortable than other office environments. The applicant must be physically able to move and lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds and be willing to work in a construction environment, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, etc.
The applicant may be required to sit for long periods of time using a keyboard and video display terminal. The applicant should be able to quickly adapt behavior and work methods in response to new information and priorities; effectively interact in a cooperative manner with many levels of people; and maintain focus and be productive under pressure.
Requirements:
  • BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or BA in Architecture required (or equivalent experience).
  • Must be proficient with MS Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team, in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
Desired Qualifications:
  • Heavy civil, underground, building, transit system, and construction experience
  • Experience with alternative project delivery methods, including design-build, CMGC, and design-bid-build
  • Work and/or internship experience on active projects and/or in a construction environment
  • Experience with project data tracking software applications on construction contracts
  • Experience or proficiency with WongCMS software
Primary Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
  • Perform complex construction assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard construction engineering techniques and procedures associated with large transportation/transit/rail infrastructure projects
  • Conduct project field coordination, documentation, cost monitoring, bidding and scheduling
  • Initial reviewer/responder to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals
  • Maintain project as-built documentation
  • Manage submittal and RFI review process
  • Coordinate submittal reviews and RFI responses by the designers and engineers/architects of record
  • Assist with determining the merit of the change requests and claims
  • Package and track proposed change orders, and work with cost/schedule engineer to establish the scope and content of change orders for pricing
  • Oversee maintenance of project files, including photo documentation of inspections and Inspection Daily Reports
  • Prepare meeting minutes
  • Support project managers, resident engineers, and construction managers in various aspects of project delivery
  • Perform other duties as assigned
